The Virginia Land Office was established June 22, 1779, and provided for the 
awarding of lands promised as bounty for specified Revolutionary War Military Service 
and to encourage at least three years continuous service.  Militia service did not count.

Virginia, Lee County - To Wit:  "In March, 1862, I volunteered as a private in the 
                       Company A, 50th Virginia Regiment.  Captain John Johnson was 
                       Captain of my Company A. We were sent to Wytheville, VA to join the 
                       Company, but they had left, and I found the Company at Rocky Gap, VA.  
                       We left Rocky Gap and went to Princeton (now WVA) where we had a 
                       ]fight with the Federal troops on the 16th day of May, 1862, and it 
                       was there I was wounded and had my right leg taken off that night.  
                       I was brought to Emory & Henry in Washington County, VA, where I 
                       stayed two months and then came home where I have lived ever since."

             Andrew Ferguson a res of Habersham Co GA in 1868 aged 48, 
             a grandson James S Davis was mentioned, the aforesaid marriage bond 
             of sol & wid was signed in Greene Co NC but later became TN.

passed an act authorizing the impressing of supplies needed by 
the American army.  Certificates for impressed property were
